2010 Season

We wanted to give everyone a list of competitions we will be participating in this year.  We're very excited to try some new recipes and work on our skills for the 2010 BBQ season.

April 17th:  The 1st Annual Ultimate BBQ Showdown  - East vs. West in Wildomar, CA
This will be an IBCA event with two additional categories of Tri-Tip and Beef Ribs.  If you are in the area or plan on being in the area you can find more information on the competition through Wildomar's Rotary Club website: http://www.wildomarrotaryclub.com/

April 18th:  7th Annual Rib Cook-Off during the CA Antique Farm Equipment Show in Tulare, CA
Bird's Pit Crew took 1st place for their pork ribs at this competition last year and we're looking forward to defending that title this year.  This is strictly a rib cook-off so their are only two categories for this competition; pork ribs and beef ribs.  We LOVE when are friends and family come out to support our passion.  You can find more information on the competition at the following website:
www.antiquefarmshow.org/General-Info/Rib-Cook-Off.htm

May 8th:  1st Annual Morgan Hill No Bull BBQ Cook-Off in Morgan Hill, CA
This will be our first competition in Northern California and we are looking forward to meeting up with some new teams.  More information on this competition can be found here:

May 22nd:  2nd Annual Bakersfield Biggest, Baddest BBQ Championship in Bakersfield, CA
Some of you may remember this competition last year as the infamous "roasting" of Baylee Bird.  If you hadn't heard  Baylee accidently fell into a bucket of hot ash during this competition last year.  She had only been at the BBQ site for 10 minutes when the accident occurred.  Baylee and Aimee left by ambulance and CJ and team finished the competition.  To say that their hearts weren't in it was an understatement.  Baylee received 2nd and 3rd degree burns to her lower back.  She has made a complete recovery and we are working on minimizing the scarring at this point.  Still to this day I couldn't tell you how Bird's Pit Crew did in this competition, the whole day was a blur.  CJ and I will be competing this year to make a name for ourselves, other than the team that left in the ambulance.

June 12th:  Kristie's Foundation Que'n for Kids Costa Mesa, CA
We had a lot of fun at this competition last year and we're looking forward to competing again this year!

June 26th: 2nd Annual Wild West BBQ Bash Santa Maria, CA
The people over in Santa Maria put on a GREAT competition last year.  We've been working on our tri-tip recipe to show up all of those great teams in Santa Maria.  Can't wait!

We will keep everyone in the loop of how we do in each of the competitions.  Again, we love to see our friends and family out at the competitions with us so check out the websites for each one and we hope to see you out there!

BBQ Season is upon us!!!

As some of you may already know, the BBQ season is upon us.  This year Bird's Pit Crew will consist of the following team members:
C.J. Bird (Head Cook)
and
Aimee Bird (Official Title: Pit B$#*h)

Eric DeLaRosa has since purchased his own BBQ restaurant in Clovis (Becky's Smokin' BBQ) and will be competing on the circuit as his own team.  We want to wish him the best of luck!

In January C.J. and we attended a BBQ class in Scottsdale, AZ.  It was a long drive there, but the 2 days of classes were well worth it.  The class was taught by 16 time Grand Champion BBQ team QN4U.  We learned a lot of valuable information from them and we're looking forward to kicking some butt this BBQ season.
